Ritter Outdoor Limited

Ritter Outdoor Limited was the company through which Martin Ritter founded and created an eponymous musical instrument bag brand in 1996. Its story begins a step earlier. The company's original design direction lay in English outdoor heritage luggage, developed in the North East of England and inspired by traditional hunting and fishing equipment, built from classical materials such as canvas. The original brochures from this period have been preserved and will form part of the archive presented here.

That outdoor design language soon found a new and unexpected home. Applied to the world of musical instruments, it gave rise to a brand that transformed a category previously defined by plain utility. Instrument bags and cases became designed objects with identity, character, and authorship, and the brand reached musicians and markets across the world, permanently changing how musical instrument bags and cases are designed, perceived, and valued.

Martin Ritter's own path had prepared this moment. Rooted in a lifelong engagement with music, his early formation combined classical piano training, composition, and musical study with a sustained interest in design, materials, and structure. His professional career developed through music retail and into product management, brand development, and international market work, giving him a rare combination of musical understanding, design instinct, and commercial experience.
